November 27, 2021 —
In November, SKA installed 45 mini reefs in Siesta Key waters. The biggest install was 30 mini reefs in the Commonwealth / Venice Lane canals. This big install was made possible by the SKEDF grant award by the Sarasota County Neighborhood program. This project aims to collect water information in the grant area and compare it to a control area. We hope to prove that there is a positive impact on water quality and juvenile sea life population when there is a concentration of mini reefs.
Others were installed around the Intracoastal, Heron Lagoon, and Waterside.
