The sign at Higel Avenue and Siesta Drive reads, “Road Work Begins 6/3.” This heralds that the long-awaited resurfacing of many Siesta Key roads is about to begin. Find out more at the June 6th SKA monthly public meeting, where Terra Ray, with Sarasota County Capital Projects, will provide the latest details and answer questions about the project. Most of the roads to be resurfaced are in the north Key. South Key roads in the project are limited to Point of Rocks Road and Circle, Crescent Street, and Dee Place. Beach Road will be resurfaced to remove the current “washboard” condition. The County’s Resurfacing – Siesta Key” project page includes a map showing all roads to be resurfaced. Bookmark this page for periodic updates from the County.

Preliminary work such as curb and roadway base repairs will begin in early June, with the actual resurfacing scheduled to start late June and complete in December. We will update this post as additional information such as a resurfacing schedule becomes available.

A Sarasota County postcard mailed to Siesta residents states “The project includes milling and paving, pavement stripping, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramp modifications, curb repairs, roadway base repairs, and school zone sign improvements… Construction will be done from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding weekends and holidays. Motorists may expect some lane closures and should seek alternate routes whenever possible. During construction, emergency vehicles will have unrestricted access at all times. Pedestrians and motorists should use caution while traveling through the area and expect some minor delays. Door hangers will also be placed at residences in advance of individual street resurfacing. Our goal is to minimize potential impacts to motorists, businesses, and residents to help mitigate disruption, so that construction can run as seamlessly as possible. We thank you, in advance, for your patience during construction and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”
