Dec 1 Planning Commission hearing on extending live music hours in Siesta Village

November 24, 2022 —

Extending hours allowed for live music in Siesta Village will be considered at a Sarasota County Planning Commission hearing on December 1, beginning at 5 pm. Specifically, the hearing will consider Special Exception 1856 (tap to view) requested by Nocturnal Properties, LLC for 5251 and 5253 Ocean Boulevard (location of Gilligan’s). The petition requests a special exception to:

“Allow entertainment, outdoor and indoor, after 10:00 p.m. in CG/SKOD (Commercial General/Siesta Key Overlay District) zone district.”

The petition further states “The Applicant is proposing a special exception to allow the use of live music entertainment past the end time of 10:00 P.M. in a bar and restaurant. This will not allow any music to be played any louder than the existing County sound ordinance already dictates.”

County Staff analysis states “No enhanced buffering proposed, and the Applicant wants to utilize the whole site, which includes the parking lot for entertainment.”

At a June 2022 workshop, the applicant indicated that he would be asking to extend live music from 10pm until closing, which is currently 2 am on weekends. At that workshop they claimed that they are losing customers to neighboring bars that have later live music hours.

The Special Exception is item 4 on the agenda. The meeting will be held at the County Administration Center, Commission Chambers, 1660 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota. To provide testimony, email planner@scgov.net or attend in person. The meeting is also available for viewing on Live TV through your cable provider, and via Webcast on YouTube. Call 941.861.5000 for further information.
