No County Permit for Under-dock Mini Reefs
April 5, 2020
Recently, Sarasota county has decided that it will not require permits for the under-dock mini reefs that SKA introduced to members at recent SKA public meetings. The Mini Reef is an aquatic life habitat that initially attracts water-filtering tube worms, barnacles, and sea squirts. After a few months, larger sea life, like crabs and oysters, move in. Pinfish and other small fish begin appearing to feed on the reef. Six months or so later, larger fish like Mullet and Snook are visiting the Mini Reef. All this serves to improve water quality in the canal.
