Industrial Fish Farm Offshore Sarasota Seeks Permit Change
Ocean Era recently notified the EPA that they want to change both the type of fish grown and the type of cage for the Velella Epsilon fish farm proposed offshore Sarasota. The local fingerling supplier also will no longer be used. Essentially, what remains is the location of the farm, in an area south of Siesta Key prone to hurricanes and red tide, and the company. Residents and environmental groups, including the Sierra Club, Don’t Cage Our Oceans, Suncoast Waterkeeper, Recirculating Farms, and Healthy Gulf, oppose this permit and request.
